12k Mastering is an independent boutique analogue mastering studio run by artist Taylor Deupree. Deupree is the founder of the 12k label and is based in a rural area north of New York City. Started in 1997, 12k has pioneered a form of experimental ambient music involving delicate hybrids of digital technology, acoustic instrumentation and the embrace of nature and imperfection.

This is the third project I’ve completed for Taylor, following his artist site and the website for his 12k label. We migrated the studio’s site off Squarespace and rebuilt it on WordPress, which opened up far more control than the previous platform allowed. The centerpiece of the project was the booking process. Squarespace’s native form was too rigid to capture the detail a mastering project requires, and it gave Taylor little room to manage what happened once a submission came in. Rebuilding on WordPress let me reconfigure the entire client intake around the studio’s actual workflow using Gravity Forms, so that onboarding is as frictionless as possible for the client, while giving Taylor a clear, manageable view of each project as it moves through its lifecycle.
