Taylor Deupree is an accomplished sound artist whose recordings, rich with abstract atmospherics, have appeared on numerous record labels as well as in site-specific installations. I first designed Taylor’s website in 2012, and now fourteen years later we have completely redesigned it for a new stage in his career. This project was a great example of a well planned database standing the test of time. The most important part of his site, the discography, was able to transition seamlessly into the new design, the underlying database having been architected in a way that a fourteen year leap had no effect on its function. Similarly, his previous site featured a News section that had grown unwieldy given the volume of attention his work now receives—we were able to streamline this into a focused Interviews section that retained the most engaging content while removing the filler.
In between these two projects, I also designed the website for his label 12k. Taylor wanted to reference both the 12k label and his 12k mastering website, but the two logos are very similar, so using them side-by-side proved difficult. My solution was to use pure CSS to create a single version that morphs fluidly between them, freezing in the correct state on hover. You can read more about the implementation here.
