Luis Bermudez (1953–2021) is known for his architectural sculpture and installations that merge experiences of landscape, memory, and pre-Columbian indigeneity. Over a decade ago, he designed and built his own website. Recently, his estate reached out to me because the functionality of the site had deteriorated and needed modernization due to a surge in interest in his work following his inclusion in the Hammer Museum’s Made in L.A. exhibition.
I collaborated with the estate to identify an off-the-shelf theme that closely resembled the layout and structure of the original site while supporting the modern WordPress editor and responsive design. Additionally, I helped select a contemporary, responsive gallery slideshow that retained the look and functionality of the original. Finally, I fine-tuned the theme to ensure that the colors and fonts remained true to Bermudez’s original vision.
